What is the easiest way for me to get a Web page? If you are an Entertainer or run any Entertainment-related business, you can take advantage of the ShowNet Directory of Australian Showbiz. One page here costs $55 (inc. GST) for the first six months. That includes everything - scanning, set-up & hosting - we do it all for you. The page can include your photo, a short bio (100 words) and your contact details. After 6 months you will be offered the choice of a lower price or longer subscription, or the opportunity to expand the content of the page.
I don't think one page will be enough. Can I have more? Of course! If you are promoting a CD or other product, you may wish to add a second page. Two pages cost $99 (inc. I already have my own Web site, but I would still like to be included in the ShowNet Directory of Australian Showbiz. Is this possible? Yes, it is! In fact several artists who have Web sites, choose to take advantage of the visitors that the ShowNet site attracts. We offer a special price: $55 (inc. GST) for the twelve months. This includes a page that has the all-important link to your site, basic details and a photo from your site.
I would like to have my own Web site. Why should I choose ShowNet to design it for me? ShowNet will help to make the experience of obtaining a Web site as easy and quick as possible for you. Also, we design to suit the larger audience, not the latest technology trends. We attempt to make our sites clear, simple and fast loading. Our designs are optimised for viewing through both of the popular browsers, Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Explorer. We also attempt to make the pages accessible to "text-only" viewers as many people still access the Internet via older office machines. Another of our features is compact screen design, with the impact focused at the top of documents (studies show that viewers dislike excessive scrolling).
How much will it cost? It varies, depending on the content of your site. As just one example, we can build you a 4 page Web site for approx $550 inc. GST (once only cost). That includes scanning photos, and registering the site with all the major search engines. If you are in the Entertainment industry, we also give you a listing in the ShowNet directory for free! Also included, for everyone, are minor updates (e.g. event dates, minor product changes) for the first six months. It doesn't include the hosting or your domain name.
Why do I need a Domain Name and Hosting? Doesn't my ISP (Internet Service Provider) give me Web space? Yes, your ISP may offer a certain amount of free space, but there are two main drawbacks. Firstly the Web Address (URL - Universal Resource Locator) may not be very appealing or memorable - e.g. http://www.users.bigpond.com/~yourname. Also, because it's free, many ISP's provide minimal or sometimes no support and do not guarantee that your site will be on-line 24hrs/7days a week.
So what is a better course of action? We recommend that you register your own domain name, i.e. www.yourname.com or www.yourbusinessname.com.au and that you have your site hosted by a dedicated professional hosting company, such as ILISYS.
