SOUNDSTAGE is a televised live concert series, filmed for the American PBS network. Beginning in 1974 and running until 1985, the show was relaunched in 2003 and continues to feature a variety of outstanding artists. Other titles available in the DVD series include Chris Isaak, Sheryl Crow, Tom Petty and Michael McDonald. A look at the shows website reveals recent performances by Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, George Jones and many more. A letter to Santa might be in order to wish that these will also become available to us on DVD.

Looking at the artists themselves: There are a number of unofficial LYLE LOVETT sites on the web, all with interesting material, but none completely up-to-date. With his label changes, even the official record company pages are lagging behind, but at least the Lost Highway Records site has his latest tour dates.

TRACE ADKINS news page carries the story of his recent appearances as part of Broadway Meets Country at New York's Lincoln Center and also the Grand Ole Opry's historic November return to Carnegie Hall. In another section of his site, The Trace Place claims to be one of the oldest webboards on the web and certainly is a growing community of his fans.

The official TRAVIS TRITT site has a comprehensive discography with a number of audio and video samples. You can become a member of the Travis Tritt Cyber World for free to enjoy access to his Message Board, Chat rooms and special streaming videos, music and photo galleries.

I hope Santa brings you unlimited downloads and a stocking full of software.

Until next time, happy seasonal surfing!

DVD REVIEW

DVD cover

CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA
BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA

It's ROCK, it's A-BILLY, it's BIG BAND and it's CHRISTMAS! If you like your rockabilly revved up and jumpin' with a sprig of holly on top, this DVD is for you. BRIAN SETZER (he of Stray Cats fame) and his orchestra have also just released their second CD of Christmas songs and each year their December concerts, as the title of this DVD proclaims, are Christmas Extravaganzas. This show was filmed last year at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles before a sold out crowd of 7,500 people who definitely had the Christmas spirit and the great camera work has captured every detail of this lively event.

In the middle of the concert the trumpets, saxes and trombones take a break and we get a back-to-basics, stripped-down three piece rockabilly blast for some of the non-seasonal hits. Other highlights include a fully orchestrated romp through the Nutcracker Suite, Dig That Crazy Santa Claus and a whimsical take on the surf classic Pipeline played by five trombones. The extra features show Brian Setzer and his orchestrator, Mark Jones, composing a chart from scratch and finally in the recording studio cutting the track. When Brian and his 20-piece orchestra start to boogie, you will too. Ho-Ho-Ho and Go-Cat-Go!
