"SURF MUSIC!"

Walk, Don't Run to these sites!

It was great to see TOMMY EMMANUEL back in Tamworth for the festival this year, especially in tandem with his brother PHIL EMMANUEL. Always a guarantee of superb music and laughs galore! Tommy was previewing his new album Endless Road as he prepares to tour Australia and New Zealand this month. Check his Web site for the full schedule and to see which dates are solo and which feature the magnificent EMMANUEL BROTHERS, celebrating 45 years of playing guitar together! Look there too, for video clips of Tommy's playing tips, his favourite touring guitars and his philosophy on life.

Phil and Tommy Emmanuel

It was from Tommy's site that I clicked over to A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION, a radio show starring hilarious raconteur Garrison Keillor. The show is broadcast live from Saint Paul, Minnesota and other locations, and has been running for 30 years. Fortunately you can also hear it on the Web and in the archives you'll find the October and December shows that feature the talents of Tommy Emmanuel amongst the guests. Don't miss Keillor's ongoing segments, The News from Lake Wobegon, a masterpiece of dry humour.

Terri Clark and Jessica Mauboy
There were Webcasts aplenty during the Tamworth Festival, including the Grand Final of the Telstra Road To Tamworth competition that was won by 14-year-old JESSICA MAUBOY from Darwin. Jessica is pictured here with visiting Canadian Country star TERRI CLARK. As part of her prize, Jessica appeared as the surprise guest artist at Terri's two Tamworth concerts.

At the COWBOYS IN CYBERSPACE site we've been busy rounding up all the post-Festival links for you, including our own Photo Album with snaps from backstage at the Toyota 2004 Golden Guitar Awards.

    SHANIA TWAIN UP!
    LIVE IN CHICAGO

    Mercury Records/Universal Music

After an absence of two-and-a-half years, the Queen of the tracky daks (Aussie slang for tracksuit pants) returns to the U.S. stage. Shania Twain Up! - Live In Chicago was filmed on July 27th, 2003 in front of over 50,000 enthusiastic fans in Chicago's Grant Park. It later aired on US prime time TV and this DVD adds 6 performances not included in the network television broadcast. The concert is equal parts classic Shania hits balanced with her current album UP! - 22 songs in all. Interestingly, the Pop/Rock material flows nicely alongside the really Country numbers. The differences are much less noticeable than when hearing the individual tracks on the radio.

Despite becoming a mother during her sabbatical, Shania shows no signs of having slowed down, strutting the giant stage with high energy. There are a few cute moments with audience members, but it is mostly music all the way. Although there are no huge surprises for her fans - the band is still tightly choreographed and exuberant, Shania goes from the sporty look to sequins, and there are enough fireworks to light up Chicago - there is no denying that this extravagant spectacle was a genuine crowd-pleaser. The Shania Twain World Tour is in Europe at the moment, but until it hopefully arrives near your town, you can enjoy the show on this DVD.
